Galentine

This is a reposted entry that we thought appropriate for this glorious day.
As they say, love is a four-legged word. We wish you joy today and always.

"They are constant reminders that life reveals the best of itself when we live fully in the moment and extend our unconditional love. And it is very true that the most tender, uncomplicated, most-generous part of our being blossoms without any effort when it comes to the love of a dog."
- from Maira Kalman's 'Beloved Dog'

hugs

I know for sure that love saves me and that it is here to save us all.

When the work day is done, I enjoy catching up with friends or drawing my girl. Charcoal value studies refresh me between commissions and sharpen my painting skills. Smearing that black powder with my fingers onto fresh white paper is cathartic.

May love and laughter light your days, and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours wherever you roam.

Sage

The Sage | oil on panel | 11" x 14" | Flanegan
Yesterday we hung the Plein Air Austin Exhibit at the Corridor of Art in Austin.

This is one of my favorites of the three paintings I submitted to the show. We've had more rain than usual this summer and the landscape is lush with gratitude. Interesting how, for me anyway, the painting experience lingers more with outdoor work than studio work. It was about 5:30p and I had finished up in the studio. Kerbey and I went for a walk and coming back, the early evening light was so striking that I knew I needed to take my easel outside.

My muse, my sage. Kerbs continues to inspire.

Our area braced for the flash-flooding predicted last Friday through Sunday from Hurricane Patricia. Instead we received a glorious slow and steady soaker of a rain, 7 plus inches.

I love how the weather forces us to slow down to appreciate the simple pleasures.

10: Lucky or Smart?

Smarty Pants | Flanegan | 5"x 5" oil on primed wood panel | nfs
This is Kirby and 'smart' gets her vote.
According to a news report earlier this week, George, a 2-year-old basset hound got in a tangle with a phone cord which wrapped around his neck, but saved his own life by calling 999 (= 911).
awesome.
Read more of this incredible story here and decide for yourself, was George lucky or smart?  I'd like to think both - just look at that face! pure joy.

"Join us to celebrate Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review's
new winter issue with a reading and exhibit Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at BookWoman, 5501 North Lamar Blvd., in Austin."

Look who's featured on the cover?! hmmm...poetry and art - what a lovely way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon.
My friend, Judy Jensen, will be reading and I will have drawings and paintings on display.

Stop by if you're in the neighborhood!

grace during the storm

   6" x 6"  |  oil on panel  | nfs

We were blessed with a half inch of rain today - it was absolutely glorious.
The Grace didn't think so. She may be going deaf, but she heard|felt the thunder loud and clear this morning. She took cover under the sheets and wagged her tail as if to ask if everything was going to be alright.
Here's to feeling safe and comforting those we love during the storm.

long hot summer

11" x 14" acrylic on canvas panel  | $400 to PAWS - thank you Sam!

One of the most popular spots to escape the searing heat last summer was under the ceiling fan...ahhh.

This is Kirby, our alpha basset, going vogue while cooling off. This painting of her will be auctioned off this Sunday at the Fall Harvest Feast, benefiting the PAWS Shelter and Humane Society. Read more about this organization and their fundraising events here.

Many, many thanks to the wonderful Cambron sisters for all they do for the Dripping Springs community.
